Description: Wmbuttons is simple little application that I wrote (and am in the process of updating). It is specifically designed to be docked in Windowmaker, or 'Swallowed' by wharf in Afterstep. If you're not familiar with these windowmanagers, check them out in the links section. Of course, it should work in just about any window manager.

Wmbutton is a 64x64 pixel application that displays nine buttons. Each of these buttons can be configured via a configuration file to run just about any application you'd like to. Basically, if you can type it in a shell command, wmbutton can run it. The graphics of in each button may, of course, be changed as well.

Add a new Version of this Dockapp

You may add a new (or even old) version of this dockapp by using the link above. This way we can be sure that this application will be available even if the project's homepage goes down (did that ever happen to you? :)).

What about the icons?

I like it, but I can't figure out a way to change the icons.

The current version compiles in the buttons.xpm graphic at compile time. You can override this by passing in the name of another xpm file, using the '-b' option. However, right now, you have to edit a graphic file to include the icons you want. For example, open the buttons.xpm file, save it as something else, and edit it to your heart's content.
I realize this is really annoying.
I plan to improve this in the next version to allow you to pass in paths to xpm icon files existing anywhere on the system using the config file, and use these to override the compiled in default.
Feature Suggestion

One thing I'd like to see is the ability to specify the tooltip for a given button. For instance, right now for the OpenOffice I see a tool tip something like /opt/Openoffice.org1.1.2/prog...

It would be nice to have the tooltip just be OoCalc.

Not the end of the world to not have it, but it would be nice.

Thanks,

Brian
Very usefull

Hi.

I find this tool to be very usefull, but, as stated above by Brian it still needs some functionality. My need is to have the possibility to see the icon for rigth or middle click, that means: when I'm holding a mouse button pressed over an icon, the icon should show the correct action.

It would be nice to have something like that.

Great job anyhow.

Thanks,
Lucian.

I like this tool a lot. I'm using it as my main program launcher with WindowMaker. One question: I like to use smaller icons with WindowMaker (48x48 instead of 64x64). Can I make the wmbutton icon fit into a 48x48 space?

Thanks, and thanks for your work.

Hi!
I've cleaned up the code a bit and fixed several memory leaks. Could someone please update the page?

New version at:

Just download the source from above. An example xpm is included!

Nice App. Someone should upload v0.61 (can be found in the web).
